What does our Reliability Check include?

MOT pass rate

Model pages show the pass rate from aggregated MOT tests for that model, when the sample is large enough to publish.

Common MOT issues

A problem list is shown when the sample has at least 15 vehicles and 40 MOT tests. An issue is listed when it occurs at least 3 times. Smaller samples do not get a fault list.

Mileage median

The median mileage in the sample, where that figure is held. It is not a prediction of how far one car will go.

Year rows

Pass rate and recurring issues by model year. A year is only commented on when that year has at least 5 vehicles.

Score median

A median VehicleScore out of 999 may be shown for the sample. The model table also lists a score by fuel type and year, with the sample size.

Not one car

This is aggregated MOT data for a model. It is not an inspection of a single vehicle, and it is not a promise of future reliability.

How the model pages are built

Open a brand, then a model. The page aggregates MOT tests in the VehicleScore sample: pass rate, common MOT issues, mileage median and year rows. A score median out of 999 may be shown.

Problem lists need at least 15 vehicles and 40 MOT tests. A year row is only commented on when that year has at least 5 vehicles. Below those minimums, the page says the sample is too small.

What this is not

It is not an inspection of one car, and it is not a forecast. MOT comments record roadworthiness findings. A registration check shows that car’s own MOT history. One vehicle’s history is also on the GOV.UK MOT history checker.

The directory below is make, then model. Each model page is built from MOT tests: pass rate, recurring advisories and failures, mileage median and year rows. A median VehicleScore out of 999 may appear for the sample.

Entering a registration runs the free vehicle report for that car: MOT status and history, tax status, make, model, year, colour, fuel, and a VehicleScore out of 999. That report is not the model aggregate.
